The Magician's Nephew

Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer are two children living in London during the late 19th century. Digory has recently moved to London to live with his Aunt Letty and Uncle Andrew because his mother is gravely ill. Polly, on the other hand, is a curious and adventurous girl who lives next door. The two quickly become friends and spend their days exploring the attics and rooftops of their connected row houses. One day, while exploring, they stumble upon a secret passage that leads them to Uncle Andrew's study.

Uncle Andrew is a peculiar and somewhat sinister character who dabbles in magic. He has been experimenting with magical rings that can transport people to other worlds. When Digory and Polly accidentally enter his study, Uncle Andrew sees an opportunity to test his rings on them. He tricks Polly into touching one of the rings, causing her to vanish instantly. Digory, horrified and desperate to save his friend, demands that Uncle Andrew explain what has happened. Uncle Andrew reveals that the rings are a means of traveling between worlds and that Polly has been sent to another world.

Determined to rescue Polly, Digory takes another ring and follows her into the unknown. This marks the beginning of their extraordinary adventure.
